When the bombs fell, a group of industrious citizens from Salem would occupy the cove, learn to fish, and settle a small but well-protected community. The cove would pass into obscurity in the late 19th century, and became more of a hangout for local kids looking to party and homeless junkies getting their next fix.
With the conquest of the Americas by Europeans, the cove found a new lease on life as a secure location for black market commerce in the colonial era. The cove was first occupied by Native Americans centuries ago, and was often used as a place of meditation, storm shelter, and religious ceremonies. The Salem Raiders are an eccentric gang of Raiders occupying a geologically unlikely large cavern in the granite bedrock underneath Salem.
